Jerome Russell Bblonde Platinum Blonde Toner Review

Hey Guys,

So a while a go I reviewed the Jerome Russell Bblonde Lightening Sprayand was also sent the toner in Platinum Blonde to review too! I chose this instead of using a bleach on my hair as last year I was dark brown and went back to blonde and after 4 bleaches and stripping my hair, I knew it needed a break. I haven't dyed my hair since July 2013 and was hoping that my roots could blend in a bit more with the remaining bright blonde hair I have at the ends.

Above: This was my hair after using the lightening spray; it added a subtle lift to my hair without changing it too much. I still wanted my roots to be lighter though, but that's difficult to do without dying your hair.

Cheeky selfie aside, this is my hair post-toner. It's not the perfect shot but you can tell that my roots are significantly lighter and the colours blend together more. It helps that my hair has grown so the style is more of a long dip-dye. I'm so happy with the toner, it's made my roots from an ash blonde to a more honey blonde.

I requested to use the Platinum Blonde* instead of a darker blonde, knowing that I wouldn't get platinum blonde hair as a result, but it would lighten and tone my hair to make it look a lot more natural. Neither product has damaged my hair; it feels healthier and soft from not dying it and using these alternative products.

If you're looking to go blonde, or lighten your hair, I'd personally recommend using the Bblonde range. I've tried other blonding products and I bought Bblonde products before reviewing these, nothing seems to last well in my hair aside these!

6 Month Blogiversary Giveaway!

Hey Lovelies,

I realised last week that I had been blogging for 6 months now and although sometimes I've had to blog through difficult times, I've loved every minute and wanted to give something back for you lovely readers. At first I was stuck on what to give away, I love fashion and beauty, but buying something fashion related can be really tricky, and a gift card just isn't my style. I thought, why not give away products I know and love.

My ears prick up as soon as I hear 'Mac' or 'Benefit' so I knew it had to include these. Strawberry is one of my favourite scents, and I love the feeling my skin gets after using cleansing water. Funnily enough, if you knew me personally, you'd know how much I hate public toilets and love to use wipes whenever I can. Makeup and skincare products are a huger love of mine, so I think this sums me up as a person pretty well.

As this is my first giveaway, I'm hoping you all enjoy it!

The Prizes:

Benfit's Sugarlicious £25.50
Benefit kindly sent a Sugarlicious 'deliciously nude lip and cheek tint' kit which includes Benetint - lip and cheek stain
High beam - complexion enhancer
Sugar bomb - a gorgeous face powder
Sugar Bomb lipgloss.

I personally love Benefit, and have a post on my Make Upper Experience if you want to see what all the fuss is about! I also have a picture on my instagram (follow in top right hand corner) of my 21st birthday gifts from mum (hi mum) too! I had a Benefit powder that lasted me about 2 1/2 years (past the use date obviously) but it was great how long the products last for; definitely worth the price.

I'd like to thank the lovely Benebabe for including this as it speaks volumes about how lovely Benefit are as a company, and how loved their products are.

MAC Lipstick £15.50
I absolutely adore MAC lipsticks. I bought this one in 'Show Orchid' from Cohorted to put in my giveaway, as it represents things I love. For me, when I first started to go into makeup I swore I wanted to be a real life Barbie and started wearing bright pink lipstick (my first being a Miss Sporty one, bless!). Having blonde hair, people have assumed I still want to be Barbie. No I don't. But I do believe in good quality lipsticks. MAC lipsticks last a long time and are worth the £15.50 price tag in my opinion.

The Body Shop Goodies £24
Speaking of Cohorted, they kindly sent me this Strawberry trio of The Body Shop products to give away. The first is a Strawberry Body Sorbet (£8) which is a moisturiser with the gorgeous fruity smell, perfect any time of the year. The name sounds delectable, and aims to hydrate the skin for up to 24 hours. Second, we have the Strawberry Shower Gel (£4) is soap free, great for sensitive skin like mine, which also has a strawberry scent to it (in case you hadn't figured that out already). Finally, we have the Vitamin E Aqua Boost Sorbet (£12), aiming to hydrate and refresh the skin all day long.

Cohorted are made up of a lovely bunch of people; Anthony, Jordan, India and Kerry. Every Monday evening at 6pm they unleash 4 requested products, whether that be a Sigma brush or a makeup palette, with a discount off for a limited period of time. You sign up to the cohort and only pay the discount price. Once the items are gone, they're gone! The people behind cohorted are genuine and really, really lovely! I get excited for every Monday now, a concept unthinkable before?

W7 Makeup £17.80
We also have some makeup goodies from W7!
Africa - a leopard patterned face powder that bronzes and illuminates your skin.
Liberty nail polish - a gorgeous purple from the Original Collection, perfect to transition from summer to autumn.
Wild Lash - black lengthening mascara.
Cosmic Nail Dust in Violet - to let your nails sparkle whenever the weather!

These W7 goodies add up to £17.80 and I think the Africa bronzer will look absolutely gorgeous on all skin tones!

Halo Wipes £5.95
Next we have the new Halo Wipes which I have my own set to try out too! The set comes with:
Eye Make-up Remover Pads £1.99 - comes in handy circle pads which quickly removes eyeliner, mascara etc.
Toilet & Surface Wipes 99p - I can't stand public bathrooms and this makes the experience a lot more bearable!
Deodorant Wipes 99p - no more sweat stains!
Moist Toilet Tissue 99p - for when there are no free basins to wash your hands, or you're in a hurry, you can use these!
Handy Hygienic Wipes 99p - going on a train/bus where people have put their dirty hands is horrible, so these are perfect for a quick hand wipe!

All the wipes are dermatologically tested and are in small, thin packs which makes carrying them easy! They are perfect to throw in your bag, I currently have 3 packs in mine!

Bioderma 250ml x6 - £60
The Garden Pharmacy sent 3 sets of 2x 250ml Bioderma's to include in this giveaway!

Bioderma Sensibio H2O - makeup remover for sensitive or redness-prone skin that helps reduce redness and soothes irritated skin

The Garden Pharmacy sells products ranging from Elizabeth Arden to La Roche-Posay, with double loyalty points for all orders placed. They have great discounts on Decleor, Clarins, Orla Keily, Elemis and Tom Ford at the moment too!

Speaking of The Garden Pharmacy they also included some samples for you to try out too, including Vichy and La Roche-Posay.

I'd like to thank everyone for supporting me and my blog for the past 6 months and hope you enjoy the giveaway, it is worth nearly £150 after all!
Good Luck!

What To Take To Uni

As I've not long finished my second year at uni, and I know how much I googled what I needed to pack to take to uni, what experiences to look out for and how to meet new people, I though it would be a good idea to make a checklist that personally helped me! This may be a bit of a long one, but it will be worth it! I am doing a Uni series at the moment, something a little different to my usual beauty and fashion posts, so keep your eyes peeled! If you're looking for a list of things you should experience during your time at uni, have a look at my Bucket List post.

For when you arrive:

Some people bring with them a gesture like cakes, drinks etc to welcome everybody into their new student accommodation. If your baking is good then definitely make something nice for people as it makes a good impression! You don't have to do this, but I did and it was a conversation starter to help ease myself into living with strangers.

Electricals:

  • Laptop, with charger and bag.
  • Extension leads must be safe, with surge protection.
  • A printer if you think you will print a lot out - very handy. (+ ink)
  • Digital camera for photos.
  • A spare 'rubbish' phone. So many people lose their phones on nights out, have a spare!
  • Chargers for any electrical devices.
  • Speakers/docking station - plug in your ipod/phone during pre-drinks.
  • HDMI/VGA cables for connecting laptops to monitors/tvs
  • TV - check if you need a tv license though!
  • Headphones.
  • Games consoles with multiple controllers.

Clothes/Shoes:

Guys, you will come back to uni multiple times before the end of the year. You don't need to pack all of your summer items when you move up in September/October. Pack most of the things you will wear, but do leave things at home!
  • If you're moving to a potentially cold city, bring some winter warmers!
  • Ice proof shoes to walk to uni in, wellies won't cut it!
  • Fancy dress items for Halloween and freshers parties.
  • Clothes to go out in ("clubbing clothes").
  • Thick socks for when it's freezing.
  • Gym/sports clothes.
  • Waterproof coat/Jacket.
  • Dressing gown and slippers - a must for when the fire alarm goes off at 4am (horrible, I know).
  • Smart clothes for possible job interviews etc.

For your bedroom:

  • Buy a mattress protector, you will be sleeping where a previous student has before!
  • Bring a double duvet even if you have a single bed to sleep in. It is worth it, trust me.
  • Possibly bring two duvets - one thin and one thick.
  • Pillows; pillowcases + spares (in case someone stays over)
  • Bring printed photos for your walls, along with decorative items like bunting, fake flowers, etc.
  • Posters and blu tac/white tac.
  • Blankets for when it's cold.
  • Cushions for your bed (decorative) and for your desk chair in case it isn't comfortable.
  • Sheets for your bed x4/5. Drinks get spilled, as does makeup when you don't pay attention!
  • Door wedge - so handy for getting ready for a night out or just not being completely anti-social.
  • Hot water bottle for those chilly nights.
  • Rubbish bin for those clothes tags you'll throw away from spending your loan.
  • Small rug.
  • Fairy lights to make everything look pretty!
  • Febreeze - to keep everything fresh!

For Laundry:

  • Hamper for clothes
  • A bag to carry dirty clothes in to the washing machine and back.
  • Clothes maiden for drying if you don't use a tumble dryer.
  • Washing powder, softener, drying sheets.

For the kitchen:

You won't necessarily need all of these, depending on your student accommodation. Check your halls website page to see what is already there.
  • Frying pans, saucepans, woks.
  • Microwaveable bowls/plates, for all those noodles you'll be eating..
  • Enough cutlery for you and a few others, in case you lose some or have friends over.
  • Plates and bowls to eat out of, you won't be eating takeaways every day!
  • Kitchen scissors, knives, wooden spoons, spatulas.
  • Colanders and sieves for draining water or sieving flour.
  • Plastic cups, mugs and throwaway cups (get 100 from the Pound stores for pre-drinks).
  • Straws for pre drinks if you wish.
  • Baking utensils, if you're into that sort of thing. I was baking multiple times a week at one point.
  • Toaster, kettle, coffee maker, toastie maker.
  • For roast dinners - masher, roasting trays, steamer.
  • Cheese graters, measuring jugs, pizza cutters, peelers.
  • Tuppawear boxes, cling film, foil, baking paper.
  • Washing up liquid, tea towels, scourers, bin bags, oven gloves
  • Bottle openers!
  • Chopping boards.
  • Shot glasses, wine glasses, pint glasses.
  • Coffee, tea, sugar, hot chocolate etc.

For the bathroom:

I don't know if you will have a shared bathroom (I did) or have your own en suite. Regardless of this, you will most probably have to share a bathroom in 2nd and 3rd years!
  • Towels, hand towels, face cloth, shower cap.
  • Try and stock up on a few shower gels, shampoos, conditioners and even razors before you go!
  • Hand soap - preferably in liquid form as bars can go a bit gross (in my opinion!).
  • Face wash/personal hygiene essentials.
  • Contraceptives - need I explain?
  • Hairbrush, combs, clips etc.
  • Hair styling products/electricals.
  • Shaving essentials - nobody likes hairy legs!
  • Make up remover - so important!
  • Bath mats.

To take to Lectures/Seminars:

  • A lot of A4 pads and biros for note taking
  • Highlighters - I used so many, especially for revision.
  • If you're bringing a laptop/tablet, bring a charger!
  • Big ring binders to file your work in.
  • A water bottle - most unis will have water fountains/dispensers and it means no buying Coke!
  • Dictaphone - you must get permission from the tutor first though.
  • Stapler and hole puncher - you can buy mini versions for on-the-go use.
  • Pen drive/personal hard drive. I have 'saved' work and gotten home and it have disappeared.
  • Tippex if you can't stand a messy page.
  • Mini calendar/diary - don't rely on just remembering something important.

Important Extras:

  • Passport, drivers licence, NHS card, NI card.
  • Any uni conformation letters, contracts, event info.
  • Discount cards - 16-25 Railcard, NUS card etc.
  • CV and references if you wish to get a job.
  • CRB check if required for your course.
  • Holdall for weekends home or trips to see friends.
  • Sewing kit - my leggings rip so easy!

It seems like a huge list but remember, you will be living in uni until you graduate! These are just the things I would personally take, but be cautious on how you're going to get everything to your halls! Good luck to all those on their way to uni! If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments below.

Makeup Revolution Romantic Smoked Palette Review

Hey Lovelies,

So recently I was asking other bloggers on Twitter what Makeup Revolution products I should try, and after so many suggestions I couldn't decide! Makeup Revolution kindly offered to send me the Romantic Smoked Palette* to try out first before buying more! I chose this palette as it had quite a few different colours, with 6 shimmery shades and 6 matte. I am a huge fan of shimmery eye shadows so this is something I was looking forward to trying out.

The palette is the perfect size to take away with you and I adore how the shadows are in long thing sections instead of small square ones so you can really get your brush in there. The design is simple and shows off the eyeshadows; they don't need dressing up! For a compact palette it makes my life a lot easier than carrying around multiple single eyeshadows, or three different palettes as I change my mind every day about how I want my makeup to look.

Above: Shimmery/Pearly Shades

Above: Matte Shades

You can mix the matte and shimmery shades together and can make so many combinations of looks with this palette. It is a great palette for smoky eye look, or a light and natural look. The shade I would least wear is probably the green shimmery shade as I personally don't tend to wear green a lot. The lilacs in the matte section look absolutely gorgeous and you can tell from my swatches that they are quite pigmented too. The shadow doesn't fall out everywhere too, and added bonus for quick application!

I love the lightest pearly eyeshadow and it will make a perfect highlighter too, which I will take full advantage of. The thing that makes a palette for me is if it has a perfect which shade, and a rich black shade. The white opens up your eyes and you can use dark shades for eyeliner or for a 'going out' type of look. I wish the shadows had names on them, so I could point out exactly which shades I mean

To top it all off, for £4 a palette you cannot complain. Makeup Revolution sell tons of products from £1 lipsticks to blusher and concealer palettes. For me, this is a brand that I will be keeping an eye on, with products coming to Superdrug stores over the UK, as soon as they come to my local stores I will be buying their highlighters and lipsticks!

For me, I am very pleased with this palette. It's affordable, it lasts on your eyes and it has a wide range of colours to choose from to make countless looks with. My Romantic Smoked Palette has made its way to my permanent makeup stash, I'm pretty sure I will be posting many selfies on Instagram wearing these shadows!

Avène Skincare Review

Hey Lovelies,

Today I thought I'd do things a bit different as I haven't reviewed moisturising type products before, but I was sent these last month and was surprised that I liked them! I've always been one of those girls who "sticks to what she knows" when it comes to moisturisers, but I have learnt to widen my horizons and have a go at using something else! I was kindly sent these Avène* creams to soothe dehydrated skin.

Avène Eau Thermale Avène Hydrance Optimale Rich £13.50 is a moisturiser designed to hydrate (if you didn't get that from the name) dry to very dry skin. On my face, I don't have really dry skin, it is quite a combination, so I imagine it works better on less oily skin. I did feel like it hydrated my skin, but I feel as my skin is a bit oily too it felt like it left an oily type feel to my skin afterwards. I've used this on my hands however and found it was a great cream for your hands! This isn't a fault of the cream, it just isn't best suited to the skin type on my face.

Avène XeraCalm Cream £16.50 claims to reduce symptoms of redness and itchiness and to also help your skin to prevent future irritations etc. I found this really moisturising on my legs and could tell I had used it for days afterwards and really cleared up any dry patches I had. I don't have eczema but my legs can get really really dry, and my legs felt lovely and soft after using it!

As you can see, I have a mixed review, but feel like the XeraCalm Cream is lovely on dry skin, leaving my skin looking healthier and more nourished. I'd recommend this to people with dry skin or just want a bit more nourishing!

Love,

Benefit 'Make Upper' Experience

So yesterday I was in John Lewis and realised I had a free 'Make Upper' from Benefit and decided to try it out. I went up to the lovely Benebabe Jenny and asked what it entailed, sat down and for about half an hour I had a little makeover. Hands up here, Jenny was the nicest and most informative person I've encountered when at makeup stalls. I've been looked down upon before, been told to wait ages etc at other counters. It wasn't at all busy yesterday, but she showed me through everything which was lovely.

Firstly, on my hand she tested the Foamingly Clean Facial Wash (£17.50) on one hand then rubbed it off and it brightened up my skin so much I was truly shocked. You know that feeling when you want to dislike something, to prove to yourself you already use the best you can use? Well I loved it. My skin was softer, brighter and smoother, after one little test. It is bugging me now that my summer money has gone all on a trip to Paris and not in the bank of Benefit! She then tried the Refined Finish Facial Polish (£18.50) which gently exfoliated the skin on my hands. To be honest, I didn't see much of a change but I would have had to try it on my face to see a change.

After removing my makeup that I already had on with the They're Real! Remover (£14.50) which seemed to work very quick indeed (I normally spend an age rubbing the mascara off my eyes which hurts and irritates them) she went on to moisturise my face with the Total Moisturise Facial Cream (£28.50) and then apply serum; Instant Comeback Serum (£36.00), finished off with It's Potent! Eye Cream (£25.50) which tingled a little under my eyes but definitely left my skin looking brighter and my eyes look more awake.

While Jenny was letting the eye cream set in, she let me pick a look and began to work her magic on my eyes. She primed my eyes with Stay Don't Stray (£20.50) which is one of my favourite products of the day. It helped hide my under eye dark circles and instantly opened my eyes up and made them look amazing! She applied three shades of the Longwear Powder Shadow (£15.50) over my lids and created a higher crease for me to make my eyes pop. The product which I was anticipating a lot was They're Real Push Up Liner (£18.50) as I have seen a lot of mixed reviews about this. I've seen some people swear by it, as a gel liner in pen form works swimmingly for some, and other's just don't get it. I never applied it myself, so I can't comment on how easy it was to use personally, but Jenny applied it for me, really quickly with a rich black colour that defined my eyes and with having blonde eyelashes, it seemed to hide the gap I sometimes have between my eyelids and lashes. It stayed on for so many hours without smudging. It lost colour the tiniest bit, so I am definitely loving this product. Finally, we both applied They're Real! Mascara (£19.50). I have used a thick brush wand ever since I started wearing makeup and have never used this type of wand, that feels almost like a spikey comb (as funny as that sounds). It is a buildable mascara so after the first coat I knew it wasn't enough for my type of look, so applied a second coat which looked great. I was a tad worried about it looking clumpy but it looked lovely and didn't budge! I didn't need to touch up my mascara later on in the day and I didn't feel like my mascara was too thick.

Onto the face! Before foundation, she used The Porefessional (£24.50) which made my skin lovely and soft, but also made me feel confident and that I could not wear makeup too which is something I've never experienced before. My mum tried it on and it looked lovely on her too and she bought it (along with Gimmie Brow and Stay Don't Stray!). Jenny applied the Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow! Foundation (£26.50) which went on pretty easily with the foundation brush. For me, I wasn't overly impressed, as I feel like the skincare products brightened my face already so didn't see much difference in this. After applying Hello Flawless Powder (£25.50) which didn't give as matte a finish as I usually go for, she went onto my eyebrows. Firstly, she applied Gimmie Brow (£17.50) in light/medium which quickly added color to my brows, but didn't give me much shape, down to my eyebrows not being super defined already. To shape my brows, the Brow Zings (£24.50) was applied, and you can tell in the pictures that I have a better arch, and longer brows. Out of my comfort zone a little having bigger brows, I adore them and I am now very sad that I don't have lovely brows today!

Jenny then contoured using Hoola (£23.50) which I already own and love, then applied the Hervana Blusher (£23.50) which is a truly gorgeous colour. I love that the lightest colour can also double as a highlighter too. I am a huge fan of Benefit blushers and own a previous Christmas Special called Powda Wowza which has Coralista, Bella Bamba and Hoola in it, which I still haven't ran out of! Just shows that the money you pay for these products is an investment and worth it if you love it. Finally, on my lips Jenny applied PosieTint (£24.50) which added a subtle pink tone to my lips. She did add that she wasn't trying to 'Barbie-fy' me, but pinks suits my pale skin and blonde hair!

You may be wondering how much my face was worth with this all on!
The answer: £404.50!
That is insane!

So here are my overall views of the products!

Skincare
Foamingly Clean Facial Wash (£17.50)
9.5/10 - Completely amazing and brightened all my skin up.

7/10 - Looked good but didn't try it on my face.

7/10 - My face was very smooth afterwards.

Face
Stay Don't Stray (£20.50)
9.5/10 - Added a hint of colour removed dark circles.
The Porefessional (£24.50)
9.5/10 - Loved this! Smooth skin and less noticeable pores. Made me have a huge boost of confidence in my own skin.
Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow! Foundation (£26.50)
6/10 - Good coverage but not right for my skin.
Hello Flawless Powder (£25.50)

 Hervana Blusher (£23.50)
9/10 - Adored the different colours and gave me a healthy glow
PosieTint (£24.50)
7/10 - Only used on my lips and I prefer a thicker lip product, but the tint was pretty good.

Eyes
 Longwear Powder Shadow (£15.50)
7/10 - Stayed on a lot better with the eye primer, lovely colours.
They're Real Push Up Liner (£18.50)
9/10 - A product I was wary about, but was super impressed with.
They're Real! Mascara (£19.50)
8.5/10 - Different wand made my eyelashes look longer and lasted all day.

I didn't buy anything from Benefit there and then, as I wanted to review everything I tried on and give it a day to think over, but I'd say my top products are:
> Stay Don't Stray
> The Porefessional
> Hervana Blusher
> They're Real Push Up Liner
> Foamingly Clean Facial Wash
> It's Potent! Eye Cream.

When speaking to the lovely Jenny, I did express my surprise at the skincare range as it would never cross my mind to even look into it, but I was very, very impressed with the eye cream and face wash and would purchase them in a flash if I could, along with most of the Benefit products! I'd love to say that if you're in Liverpool, go and visit Jenny in John Lewis and book a Make Upper and let her open your eyes to new products you haven't tried.

I know this was a long post, so thank you if you got this far down! I wasn't sponsored at all by Benefit to write this post, I was just thoroughly happy with the products and will be making a wishlist for my 21st Birthday in 2 months!

Love,
Laura
